Childhood Delight

Don’t you love it when you have no plans for a particular place or thing and you stumble across a great surprise?

After I stopped at Half Price Books to gather some research material for my next book, I noticed a dessert shop on the corner of the strip. Jilly’s Cupcake Bar caught my attention with all the bragging rights on the front window stating “Two Time Winner” Food Network Cupcake Wars. I had to check the place out for myself.

Upon entering the shop, trays of colorful, large cupcakes caught my attention. A very kind woman waited on me and explained the difference between the “adult” cupcakes (Bailey’s Buttercream with a center filled with Jameson Whiskey Ganache) and the regular ones. I tried the Bee Sting; vanilla cake with lemon curd filling. It’s topped with a lemon cream cheese icing, edged with toasted almonds and topped off with crushed lemon candies, white chocolate bark and a sugar bee.

Eating this gourmet cupcake brought on delightful memories of eating cupcakes as a child and sneaking finger dips into the icing bowl. Jilly’s offers cupcake flavors of the month, custom cupcakes and cakes for special occasions. They even serve ice cream.

Overall: You have to try Jilly’s at least once.
